Evolution
Colin Patterson, head of the Department of Palaeontology at the British Museum of Natural History, stated in a private letter of April 10, 1979 to Luther D. Sutherland, an aerospace engineer with General Electric, that there is no fossil evidence for evolutionary transitional forms. He states that he stills believes in "gradualism" (i.e., evolution) merely because of his presuppositions about genetics, but that it is "hard to contradict...Gould and the American Museum...when they say that there are no transitional fossils." In a rather succinct statement, Patterson says: "I will lay it on the line -- there is not one such fossil for which one could make a watertight argument."
Below is a copy of the letter from Patterson to Sunderland, from the original British Museum letterhead.
