Bible Study

Catholic Apologetics International is proud to offer our patrons the opportunity to dive into God's Written Word with one of the best Catholic exegetes, CAI's president, Robert Sungenis. After studying each analysis, you can submit questions via e-mail. During the next installment on e-mail, your question will be stated and answered for everyone to see.

The first 14 studies will take you through the book of Romans.

One word of advice: CAI's On-Line Bible Study is serious, in-depth bible study. This will not be the kind of bible study where you merely learn a few spiritual platitudes or moral tidbits. This Bible study will be like entering another world, and we guarantee that when you come back to your world, you will not be the same person you were when you left.

You will see the Bible like you have never seen it before or will see again. We will introduce you to the same hermeneutical tools that scholars use, but so that you can understand them -- things like Greek and Hebrew word analysis; Greek and Hebrew grammatical analysis; synchronic analysis (context); diachronic analysis (related passages); narrative analysis; anagogical and allegorical applications; the original writings of the Fathers and Medieval theologians on a particular verse of theological concept; statements from Popes and Councils; and many more such things.

Oh yes, you will learn a lot of practical information for your own personal life. In fact, you'll learn more in this kind of study then you will in many other kinds of Bible studies. Why? Simply because in order to know what the practical message is, you must first know what the text says. You can only know what the text says when you do an in-depth study of it (words, grammar, context, verse comparison, history, symbolism, etc). Too often in many Bible studies, practical lessons are drawn from texts that have little to do with the lesson being taught.

To do this, we will show you a simple 10-step system of biblical interpretation. We will go through each step with each weekly lesson. Once you know the system, you can use it for any biblical passage and use it for your own group bible studies, using CAI as a guide.

The translation being used for CAI's On-Line Bible Study is the Revised Standard Version. This is one of the more accurate translations of the Bible.

Rules for submitting questions:

1) Make sure your questions are short and to the point.

2) Make sure you ask only one question at a time; two questions per week. If your question is similar to someone else's question, it will be grouped together and given one reply.

3) Make sure your question is related to the matter being discussed in the Bible study. We will not answer questions relating to other topics.

4) Make sure your question deals with the verses being taught during that week, not from a previous week.

5) If you do not want your name mentioned on the web when we answer your question, make sure you tell us in your e-mail. Otherwise, give us your name and address with each question you submit. However, your address will not be listed on the web. It will be put in our files only.

6) Send the questions to cairomeo@aol.com. In the subject section of the e-mail put the words "Internet Bible Study" so that we know to open that e-mail.

7) If we receive too many questions, we will have to select the ones we decide will most benefit everyone. Thus, you may find in some weeks that your question was not answered. Do not be discouraged. We do not expect this to happen often, and, you will learn much from the other questions that we have answered.

Cost of the Bible Study:

Unfortunately, CAI must charge for this service, since all our financial resources to exist as a Catholic apostolate come from CAI patrons. We have no grants, endowments, foundations, or any such thing. We operate solely on the generous gifts of dedicated Catholics. In return, you will receive one of the best lessons in Catholic Biblical interpretation found anywhere. We ask that you not consider your monthly installments as a fee, but as a donation to CAI so that we can spread the Catholic gospel all over the world. We cannot do this without your gifts.

The cost of the Bible study is $10.00 per month. In that month you will receive two lessons, one every two weeks. Robert Sungenis will focus on one passage and its surrounding context of 10-15 verses per week as he goes through one of the books of the Bible. You can come into the Bible study on the first Saturday of any month. Just contact us and let us know you want to come in.

One of the initial means to pay for the CAI's on-line Bible study will be our PayPal service. This is a service which will ask you to open up an account with them so that they can accept your credit card for payment to CAI. Once we receive notification from PayPal that you have paid for that month's Bible study, you will be sent the study through e-mail. Once you have a PayPal account, you can use it to purchase anything on the Internet, or send money to anyone with an e-mail address.

Once you have joined the Bible study, we will require your credit card information to be sent to CAI so that we can deduct for subsequent studies automatically each month. You may send to CAI, P.O. Box 278 State Line, PA, 17263 or call 1-800-531-6393 or 717-597-8670. If no answer you can leave your information. Only our president retrieves those messages.

Well, we hope that whets your appetite. If you have any immediate questions before entering the study, address them to cairomeo@aol.com
